Every woven fence is horizontal line wires crossed by vertical stays, and what holds those two together is what the fence is actually for. STAY-TUFF builds it two ways, and the Four Sixes used one of each.

The stay can’t pivot and can’t travel, so the fence retains its shape and cattle are unable to put their head through it.

The crimp is take-up: it absorbs impacts from animals, falling limbs and snow loads, follows uneven terrain, and remains tight.

Nine horizontal wires at 49″, held by fixed knots. It’s what went up across the Dixon Creek Division.

What’s the difference between the two fences the Four Sixes put up?
The joint. Cattle-Tuff is fixed knot — solid vertical stays and horizontal lines of galvanized wire joined in a knot design, so the stay can’t pivot and can’t travel. The horse fence is Stiff-Stay — rigid wire and rigid stays with a higher strength top and bottom wire, and a deep crimp worked into the line wire that absorbs impacts and keeps the fence tight across uneven ground. One is built so nothing moves. The other is built to give and come back.
So which one is better?
Neither, and anyone who answers that question without asking about your place first is selling you something. They’re engineered against different failures. STAY-TUFF builds fixed knot for horses too, so even that isn’t a clean line — which one belongs on your fence line depends on your animals, your terrain and how you graze. That conversation is exactly what the form starts
How tall is Cattle-Tuff, and how far apart are the stays?
Forty-nine inches tall with nine horizontal wires on every model. Stay spacing is 6″, 12″ or 3″ depending on the model. The Four Sixes put up ST 949-6-330 at Dixon Creek — 6″ spacing on a 330-foot roll.
And the horse fence?
High Tensile Horse Fence, Stiff-Stay construction, with 2″ × 4″ openings, in three heights: 48″ (1348-2), 60″ (1660-2) and 72″ (1972-2), with 13, 16 and 19 horizontal wires. The horse facility at Guthrie got the 60-inch 1660-2. Redi Roll is available — pre-stripped rolls with the 18″ vertical stays removed.
How long is the warranty , and how is it coated?
A 20-year warranty is available on both, and both are heavy duty Class 3 galvanized on high tensile wire.
How many rolls and posts will I need?
For rolls, our Fence Calculator does the math based on your footage. Posts are a different question: high tensile fencing uses fewer posts than conventional low-carbon fence and won’t stretch or sag, but the number you actually need depends on your terrain, corners, and braces. Your dealer will determine that count as part of your quote.
